Kelly used a packet of yellow gradated fabrics to create this miniature Amish-style quilt.
You Need:
4 assorted yellow solids (blocks) 1/4 yd. each
Black solid (blocks, outer border, binding) 7/8 yd.
Gold solid (center, inner border) 1/4 yd.
Backing 3/4 yd.

Cut!
4 assorted yellow solids—cut from each:
... 4 squares 2 3/8" x 2 3/8", cut in half diagonally to make 8 half-square triangles
... 1 square 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
Black solid
... 4 squares 4 1/4" x 4 1/4", cut in half twice diagonally to make 16 quarter-square triangles
... 16 squares 2" x 2"
... 4 strips 1" x 6 1/2"
... 2 strips 3 3/4" x 16"
... 2 strips 3 3/4" x 22"
Gold solid
... 1 square 1" x 1"
... 4 strips 1" x 16"
Sew!
1. See Diagram I and stitch matching assorted yellow 2 3/8" half-square triangles to black 4 1/4" quarter-square triangle to make pieced rectangle. Make 4 sets of 4 matching
2. Use 4 black 2" squares, 4 matching pieced rectangles, and matching assorted yellow 3 1/2" square to make Star Block (Diagram II). Make 4 total.
3. Referring to Assembly Diagram, stitch 2 rows of 2 Star Blocks and 1 black 1" x 6 1/2" strip each. Stitch sashing row, using 2 black 1" x 6 1/2" strips and 1 gold 1" square. Sew rows together. Sew 2 gold 1" x 16" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch remaining gold strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch black 3 3/4" x 16" strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom. Stitch remaining black strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides.

4. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Kelly crosshatched the star centers and outline stitched the stars and inner border. A feather fills the outer border. Bind quilt with black fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
