Sew!
1. Referring to Assembly Diagram, arrange and sew 7 rows of five 6 1/2" squares each, alternating red mottle, red print, and white squares. Sew rows together.
2. Sew black 1 1/2" x 46" strips to quilt sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch remaining black strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Sew white 3 1/2" x 48" strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining white strips to top/bottom; trim even. Sew red mottle 2 1/2" x 54" strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining red mottle strips to top/bottom; trim even.

3. Trace Templates A-D on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn lines.
4. Referring to photo, arrange template fabrics on white border in alphabetical order. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse in place. Machine or hand buttonhole stitch around appliqué (Diagram I). Stitch along center line of each B and D fabric (see templates). Using stem stitch, stitch antennae (Diagram II).

5. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Janice machine quilted in the ditch between squares and stitched ladybug motifs in the red squares, diagonal lines in the red print squares, and flower motifs in the white squares. The black border features a wavy line on each seam, the red border has a continuous swirl pattern, and the white border is filled with a meander stitch. Bind quilt with black fabric (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
