Plan
We may still be in the grip of winter but there is no reason you can't think spring! Kathy made this delightful bouquet quilt using her Cat Nappin' fabric collection by Troy. We give you templates for one large and one small flower, but Kathy cut and arranged each flower slightly differently. She also fussy-cut her flower centers (Template C) to feature a printed swirl motif. Do likewise if you wish.

You Need:
Assorted bright dots and prints (flowers, pieced border) 1/2 - 3/4 yd. total
Multicolor plaid (vase, outer border, bias-cut binding) 1 1/4 yds.
White-on white print (background) 5/8 yd.
Aqua print (borders) 1/2 yd.
Backing 1 3/8 yds.
Batting Crib size
Paper-backed fusible web 1 yd.
1/8" green ribbon 1 3/8 yds.

Cut

*Cut first.
** To learn how to make bias-cut binding from a square, see How to Make Continuous Bias.

1. Trace Templates A-F on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate fabrics; cut apart on drawn lines.
2. For flower stems, cut green ribbon in the following lengths: 6 1/4", 2 1/4", 9 3/4", 7 1/4", 5 1/4", 8 3/4", 2", 5 1/2". These ribbon stems will be positioned from left to right at the vase opening.
3. Finger-press white-on-white rectangle in half on both length and width; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram I, position stems. Using a wide zigzag stitch and green thread, stitch over ribbon strips (Diagram II) to hold in place. Following manufacturer's instructions, position and fuse template fabrics in place to make Appliqué Block. Make 1. Using a narrow zigzag stitch (Diagram III), stitch around appliqué shapes.

4. Referring to Assembly Diagram, sew aqua 1 1/2" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch aqua strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Sew 6 assorted bright 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles together, end to end. Make 4. Sew 2 to sides and 2 to top/bottom.
5. Sew aqua 1 1/2" strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining aqua strips to top/bottom; trim even. Sew plaid strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining plaid strips to top/bottom; trim even.

6. Layer, baste, and quilt. Kathy machine quilted a meander on the background, vase and outer border. She ditch quilted the aqua borders and added a large X on each rectangle in the pieced border. Bind with bias-cut multicolor plaid (see Quiltmaking Fundamentals).
